Moses (Musa) and Banu Israel (the Children of Israel)

Greetings in the name of God!

Tomorrow is our next “signs” study from the Qur’an, inshallah. We’ve been following along as God brought Musa (Moses) and Banu Israel (the Children of Israel) triumphantly out of Egypt and safely through the Red Sea. Then we watched them struggle with idolatry—basically a crisis over Whom had their trust.

And now, this week, Moses and the Children of Israel arrive at the base of the mountain. What will happen there? How will they respond this time? Does Allah have their full attention and trust? Join us and see! We meet at 5:30 pm at the Somali Center, God willing (email me if you need directions).

May the blessings and mercy of God surround you today!

Happy Eid!

Eid Mubarak! We want to wish you a wonderful Eid al-Fitr, to mark the end of Ramadan! Hope you enjoyed some blessed time with your family and friends, celebrating together and thanking God for the gifts of life and family. He truly is a Generous, Merciful, and Compassionate Lord, is He not?

May you be reminded this week of the Majesty of our Lord, and may each of us submit more fully to Him, Who is the only One worthy of worship.

As-salaam aleikum! May you have peace!

As-salaam aleikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu! Peace be upon you, and God’s mercy and His blessing!

I am SO pleased to be blogging again after being in the Middle East for 2 months! It’s good to be back, and I look forward to seeing many of you in the next few weeks in our Qur’an study group, inshallah/God willing.

These next few weeks promise to be interesting studies—we’re looking at one of the most amazing moments in history, the time when the Almighty not only spoke with a human being but actually gave His very words to him. In the Qur’an, Allah says to this special prophet, “I have chosen you above all people for My messages and to speak with Me” (Surah al-A’raf 7:144). Interestingly, the giving of these divine words is also associated with a month of fasting.

This all sounds very similar to something that is happening right now—the last ten days of fasting in the month of Ramadan and the elusive Laylat al-Qadr or Night of Power, the night in which the first words of the Qur’an are believed to be sent down.

Don’t we all desire a similar experience?—to sense the nearness and presence of God, to actually hear the Lord of the worlds? Glory be to God! Subhan’Allah!

Let’s discuss this hope together… and also see who was the prophet who was blessed to speak directly with God. Join us, God willing, tomorrow (Thursday) at 5:30 p.m. for our Qur’an study at the Somali Center. Email for directions if you need them. Hope to see you then!

Ramadan Mubarak! Have a blessed Ramadan!
